Have a hard time waking up in the morning. Want to get up with a BANG!? (To say the least!) The Little Rooster, is a smart new sex toy. It isn’t just a vibrator, it’s an alarm clock for your pussy. The device has 27 ultra-quiet levels of intensity (plus three more monster-loud ones for those deep sleepers).

You actually wear it inside your undies where a,

vibrating leg stimulates your clitoris and labia.

The Little Rooster starts the sexy vibrations five minutes before you actually need to get your lazy c*nt out of bed. And it’s fairly affordable at under $100. But does it really work?

And ladies, wouldn’t “The Big Cock“, been a better name for marketing? Go ahead and say it…

I’ll have what she’s having.

LA

September 4, 1781El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles del Río de Porciúncula (The Village of Our Lady, the Queen of the Angels of the river of Porziuncola). Los Angeles and I have history. My father grew up in the Silverlake neighborhood, which at the time was a quiet, nice, but already decidedly bohemian neighborhood.

Silver Lake was home to Harry Hay, considered to be the father of Gay Rights. He is now honored with the naming of the Mattachine Steps on Cove Avenue. The Mattachine Society was this nation’s first Gay organization, formed in the 1950s. In 1967, Silver Lake was the scene of one of the USA’s first gay rights protests, organized by P.R.I.D.E. (Personal Rights in Defense and Education), after police raided the Black Cat bar after men were spotted kissing on New Year’s Eve. This was more than two years before Stonewall. The Advocate, the oldest and largest LGBTQ publication in the nation, began as a pushback after those first protests.

LA History5

When I lived in the city in the early 1970s, Silverlake had deteriorated, but then the gays moved in and fixed things up as they always do in metropolitan areas, and it now it is inhabited by an eclectic community of hipsters, the creative class, and still, of course, lots of gays.

I went happily to college in Los Angeles at Loyola Marymount University. I lived in Playa del Rey, right on the strand. My apartment had sliding glass doors that opened to white sand and the Pacific Ocean, with a view of Santa Catalina Island on a clear day, which there were few of in the early 1970s. My Los Angeles life, hardly ever involved LA proper. My universe was very “beach” and stretched from Redondo Beach to Malibu Beach. I frequented spots in Venice and Santa Monica. My friends and I would go into Westwood or Hollywood to see films and plays, but for the most part it was beach, beach, and beach. A good place to stop for a drink and a look at cute surfer dudes was The Friendship, a friendly bar at the start of Santa Monica Canyon near Will Rogers State Park, a favorite spot for sun worshipping homos. There was also the deliciously seedy The West Side in Venice Beach.

Los Angeles has been a city of many firsts for the LGBTQ community, and West Hollywood, an enclave within LA, is the planet’s first Gay City. It is a small town of just 1.9 square miles surrounded by Los Angeles’ Hollywood neighborhood and the independent city of Beverly Hills.

Because the town was outside the jurisdiction of the LA Police Department, gambling flourished and the booze flowed freely during the Prohibition era. In the 1920s and 1930s, the Sunset Strip running along WeHo’s northwest border became the main nightlife destination for celebrities in the film industry. Posh apartment complexes were home to Hollywood stars. Lesbian actor Alla Nazimova‘s residence, The Garden Of Allah, was infamous for its wild celebrity filled parties.

During the first half of the 20th century, Gay people discovered West Hollywood. It was beyond the reach of the notoriously homophobic L.A.P.D. and convenient for the creative talent working in the film industry. So many gay men bought and renovated working-class bungalows in the 1960s and 1970s that the area around Sunset Strip became known as the “Swish Alps”.

The gay scene was centered along Santa Monica Boulevard. Clubs, cafes and shops catering to gay patrons sprang up on the street, dubbed Boys’ Town (though it also included a long-lived Lesbian bar, The Palms). But not everyone was friendly towards the Gays. Barney’s Beanery, a popular spot since the 1920s, for decades posted a sign reading “Fagots (sic) Stay Out”.

The east end of Santa Monica Boulevard, near the border with Hollywood, became a strolling spot for male hustlers and trans-people. In the 1970s, when I loved in LA, this part of town was pretty darn gritty, now it is just pretty.

With a large population of renters, WeHo residents grew concerned when LA County proposed dropping rent control despite skyrocketing real estate prices. A coalition of gays, Jews, and seniors organized a grassroots movement to establish a separate city. West Hollywood was incorporated in 1984, and elected the first-ever city council with a gay majority and the first openly lesbian mayor, Valerie Terrigno. The city council quickly passed strong rent control and anti-eviction laws and an ordinance banning discrimination. Terrigno personally removed the “Fagots Keep Out” sign from Barney’s Beanery. In 1985, WeHo began offering domestic partnership benefits, the first American city to legally recognize same-sex relationships.

My LA was a decidedly 1970s affair and the city had many bathhouses, bars, and that distinctly 1970s enterprise, discotheques, boomed. The biggest was WeHo’s Studio One, a cavernous factory building that was outfitted with strobe lights and speakers in a hall of mirrors that was a temple of amplified music and masculine vanity. Every night between Memorial Day and Labor Day 1975, I was one of a thousand gay men at Studio One who danced, danced, danced the night away. Music industry promoters vied to have their records played there; it was featured on national television; and it was dubbed by the media as the most exciting disco in the country. The good-looking staff famously dressed in tiny, tight basketball shorts and attended to your every need. The cachet of the place was enhanced by its Back Lot Theater which featured entertainers ranging from Broadway Diva Barbara Cook to Wayland Flowers and his puppet Madam.

Studio One in WeHo, my favorite hangout in summer 1975

Studio One in WeHo, my favorite hangout in the mid-1970s

West Hollywood has never had an actual gay majority, but it has the largest proportion of gay residents of any city, about 40 percent of a total population. The Christopher Street West Pride Parade was first held in 1970, 350,000 people attended this year’s parade. In 1987 the city added an annual Halloween Carnaval, a debauched affair that attracts a half-million homos every year. Rainbow flags fly on Santa Monica Boulevard year-round, and the LA County Sheriff cars have a rainbow logo.

Archaeological studies show there was a gay culture in Los Angeles in 8,000 B.C., mostly acting hopefuls trying to be seen by casting directors for the prehistoric version of pilot season. There was much disappointment and a certain amount of violence when it was revealed that film itself was a full 27 centuries away.

By 3,000 B.C. Los Angeles was occupied by the Hokan-speaking people of the Milling Stone Period who could sing, dance, act, and write screenplays, plus gather wild seeds. LA, along with the rest of Southern California was claimed by Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo for Spain in 1542. By the time the rest of the Europeans arrived in the mid-18th century, there were 250,000 to 300,000 people in LA., all trying to get their SAG cards.

Los Angeles, 90 years ago

Los Angeles, 1926

Los Angeles is the second largest city in the USA. It spans an area of more than 600 square miles. The urban area extends beyond the administrative city limits with a population of over 20 million humans. It is the 21st largest urban area in the world. Los Angeles is the largest city with the highest and lowest (sea level) elevation difference in the world. Native plants include California Poppy, Coast Live Oak, and Xanax.

Although I have always felt the weather is rather perfect, Los Angeles is sadly in its fourth year of severe drought, maybe you’ve heard. It is also subject to the phenomena of microclimates, with extreme variations in temperature in close physical proximity to each other. The average September maximum temperature in Santa Monica is 75 °F, but it is 95 °F in Canoga Park. The city, like much of the Southern California coast enjoys weather with foggy skies in the morning burning off to sun by early afternoon.

Los Angeles is the largest manufacturing center in the western United States. Los Angeles/Long Beach comprise the largest port in Western North America and the fifth busiest port in the world. It is the third largest metropolitan economy on our pretty planet, after Tokyo and NYC.

It is a global city, with 225 different languages spoken including “Agent”, with many ethnic enclaves with cool restaurants throughout the city. It is home for the largest population of people of Middle Eastern heritage outside of, well, The Middle East, with large groups of Armenians and Persians centered near Sunset Boulevard, and the second largest population of Jews in North America. Only 29% of Los Angelinos are white people, yet they make up 98% of the entertainment industry.

Some of the happiest moments of my life have been experienced in LA. I love the city and I have watched the renaissance and turn-around of neighborhoods that I would never have dreamed possible: Hollywood, Culver City, Downtown, Glendale and Venice are now hot places to live and play. When I was there last February, it was simply gorgeous, with blue skies, temps in the 70s, a slight dusting of snow in the Santa Monica Mountains, and lots and lots of pretty people.

Happy Birthday to the City Of Angels. I will always love you: Tommy’s Burgers, Hollywood’s stucco cottages, The Capitol Record Building, Santa Monica, Laurel Canyon, Griffith Park, Randy’s Donuts, Rodeo Drive, Nate N’ Al’s Delicatessen, Canter’s Deli, La Brea Tar Pits, The Getty Museums, Venice Beach Boardwalk, The Hollywood Bowl, Union Station, Scientology Headquarters, Watts Towers, The Chateau Marmont, The Hollywood Roosevelt HotelEl Portal TheatrePalos Verdes, Beverly Hills, Swimming Pools, Movie Stars, World Of Wonder Headquarters.

Everyone should live in Los Angeles at least once in their life.

Yes, we’re using the term “star” here VERY generously with these Donald Trump supporters. Some of these folks are D-list at best (we’re looking at you Kid Rock & Kendra) and more than a few were Trump’s Apprentices. I gotta say I was most disappointed to see country music queen Loretta Lynn on Trump’s side. I guess it’s not a HUGE surprise since her country counterpart here, Blake Shelton and his fan base are mostly voting Republican too. Arnold has been solidly GOP (operative term, “has-been”) as is addle-brained Rush Limbaugh, but who knew their fellow action hero and newsmen Jean-Claude Van Dam and Piers Morgan were also so pro-orange. Mr. Brady, I guess you are lucky that Giselle is Brazilian, and not a solidly American born Democrat like many of her fellow super models.

Others like Garey Busey, Ted Nugent, Stephen Baldwin, Omarosa, Martin Skhreli, Jon Voight, Mike Tyson, and Tila Tequila, among other dumb-dumbs, are totally predictable as Trump-lovers. Like their candidate, they’d say or do ANYTHING for a little attention.

ACTION BROS 80s action star Jean Claude Van Dam, says he's for Trump, even though he doesn’t believe the candidate can win. And no surprise Donald is Arnold's pick. He's supposedly his replacement as host of "The Apprentice".

David Byars

David Byars

My old friend, Vogue‘s Deputy Managing Editor, David Byars’ new book is Our Time at Foxhollow Farm: A Hudson Valley Family Remembered. The 312-page tome mines America’s aristocracy —specifically the Dows family of Rhinebeck, New York, a bunch who knew how to live and might just have their own PBS Masterpiece Theater series one day. In 1903 Tracy Dows, the son of a successful grain merchant from Manhattan, married Alice Townsend Olin, whose Livingston forebears had settled in the Rhinebeck, New York, area in the late 1600s. Dows purchased and combined several existing farms to establish his estate next to Alice’s ancestral home. It was called Foxhollow Farm, a sprawling Colonial Revival country house that architect Harrie T. Lindeberg completed in 1910.

Byars, as a frequent upstate visitor, is no stranger to images of fine living and high style, combed through the Dows collection of family photographs, many of which were taken by Tracy. Hundreds of these images were preserved by Hudson River Heritage, where Byars is a board member. It all took place 100 years ago and without the relatively new tech invention of photography, all the beauty interiors and gardens, along with fantastic details of fine living, might have been lost to time.

Whether marrying off a daughter, attending a country fair, taking art lessons (the Dowses’ muralist son, Olin, was big in the 1930s WPA program) or just strolling through the garden, it all looks like a LOT of fun. Famous names like Vincent Astor, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Thomas Wolfe, make cameos. Not all of the glamour takes place at Foxhollow, some high-society destinations like Santa Barbara, Monte Carlo, Venice and Ravello show up in vacation snaps.

But taxes, marital strife and the Depression—all took their toll and the Dows family split apart and in 1930, Foxhollow Farm was turned into a girls’ school and eventually sold. Today it’s a substance-abuse treatment center. But a big thanks is owed to David Byars and Hudson River Heritage —plus participation of several Dows descendants —that this Gilded Age has opened it doors to a bye-gone glory once again.

You can get the book at Amazon for $40. Hint: An excellent housewarming if you are coming to visit me in upstate New York.

Self-portrait

Self-portrait

Alexis Ruiseco is a New York–based artist, actor, director. He just received his BFA from Parson’s this year. His work includes self-portraits that play with notions of gender. The shots below are of queer culture in Miami and New York that show his eye for the spontaneous. This series is called Reinas, which is Spanish for “queens,”.

I started photographing queer performers back in January 2013 in Miami; Azucar Nightclub was the venue that gave me my first access, and through TP Lords, the performer I worked with every Thursday, I met Erika Norel and Daisy Deadpetals. Because of them I was able to connect with the queer community of south Florida. For five months, I was coming in and out of Azucar and Off the Hookah photographing backstage and performances. During that time, the approach I took on was of a sensitive voyeur, looking for moments that resonated with my sensibilities and the ideas of dominance that were circling my head.

When I moved to New York in July of the same year, I sought to investigate how performance carried over into more personal settings, so I became interested in making portraits in the homes of the people I was meeting. I’m still working through understanding the psychology of transformation, and at the time, I was looking at the way others were expressing similar ideas. The most important thing for me when I asked for a sitting was to be aware of how each person wanted to represent themselves, because underrepresented communities aren’t given that consideration. The portraits had to have an element of collaboration to give each queer voice a depth and volume.“

Katya as Bjork on “Snatch Game”

Yes, true story! In a recent interview with The Guardian, Björk revealed she’s a super-fan of RuPaul’s Drag Race. (Did you catch Katya as the Icelandic wonder on Snatch Game this week!? How could you not?) Björk said,

My assistant James Merry, who’s become my collaborator now, introduced me to it back in 2009 when we were in Costa Rica. I would watch it occasionally with him.”

Then recently I was looking for something to watch with my daughter, and over the last few months we we watched all eight series. It’s uplifting how [RuPaul] builds up the queens, he gives them tough love and they blossom throughout the series.

It’s really life-affirming—but on top of everything else it’s obviously hilarious. I know all the queens now by name —we quote it left, right and center.”

The exhibit Björk Digital is now on view at London’s Somerset House through October 23. Check out the full Guardian article for more on what inspires the inspiring, Björk.

WVMAs
Last Sunday was MTV‘s Video Music Awards to recognize the best videos of the last year. But here are some of the worst, not just of 2016, but EVER. We really cannot take any credit (or blame) for finding these turds, it was the work of DancesWithWolves on Imgur. He (she?) asked for people to send in the worst music videos they could find and I think they really outdid themselves. If there are worse songs and videos out there, honestly, I don’t want to see them. These aren’t the “so bad their brilliant” variety, they are just plain ol’ BAD. I’d say “enjoy” but that’s not really possible. So instead, just

Jersey-based queer rapper Cakes Da Killa just put out his latest visual for single Talkin’ Greezy (director Nico), off forthcoming debut album Hedonism (October 21). Killa goes in and out of a filtered, bass-distorted vox while rapping “I’m too ill, eating these rappers like they appetizers. Why these baby f*gs on my d*ck like they pacifiers?” Cakes is clearly all grown up since releasing his Hunger Pangs EP a couple years ago, leaving apathetic candy-coated lyrics behind, taking a more erudite stance against those who he feels have been ignoring him and his contribution to the hip hop culture. “Talkin’ Greezy is my reintroduction to your eardrums after my incubation period,” says Cakes via The Fader. “A lot of people have slept on me, wrote me off, and put me in a box, and I’m here to break out.” You can get Talkin’ Greezy now on iTunes, and the full album Hedonism, featuring Peaches and Rye Rye, on October 21.

September 5, 1912John Cage:

“I can’t understand why people are frightened of new ideas. I’m frightened of the old ones.”

John Milton Cage was a most important American experimental music composer, writer, performance and visual artist. His most famous and most controversial musical composition is the 1952 piece 4’33”, whose three movements are performed without playing a single note. Pronounced “4 minutes 33 seconds”, it is a composition for any instrument, or combination of instruments. The score instructs the performer not to play the instrument during the entire duration of the piece. Cage intended 4’33’’ to consist of the sounds of the environment that the listeners hear while it is being performed. Get it?

Cage was a pioneer of what he called “chance music”, music where some elements are left to be decided simply by chance. He is also known for his unconventional use of musical instruments, household appliances and tools, and his early use of electronic music. Cage is one of the most important composers of his era, especially because he asked questions about the very definition of music.

Along with painters Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns, partners in life, Cage and his own partner in life and in art, choreographer Merce Cunningham, became a part of a circle of fascinating young gay artists whose ideas and execution challenged the macho Abstract Expressionists like Jackson Pollack who dominated the 1950s NYC art scene. They developed an alternative creative and very gay spirit that became the trademark of Post-Modern Art.

Cage on left with Cunningham and Robert Rauschenberg

Cage pushed the boundaries of the definition of music, experimenting with sound, environment and audience perception. His work influenced classical music, popular music, painting, dance, performance art and poetry in the last half of the 20th century and beyond.

Cage was born in LA, the son of an inventor. Young Cage held a yearning for innovation and originality, qualities that became the hallmarks of his entire career.

In 1930, after 2 years at Pomona College, Cage left for a less traditional education in Europe. He chose Paris, where he spent 18 months painting, writing poetry and composing music, before returning refreshed and inspired to California to focus on his music.

From 1932-1936, Cage studied composition with the famous modernist, Arnold Schoenberg. Schoenberg was a gay Austrian Jew who fled those nasty Nazis for the USA. Schoenberg declared the young Cage: “…is not a composer, but an inventor of genius.”

In 1937, Cage took a job as a dance accompanist while taking classes at The Cornish School Of The Arts in Seattle. It was there that he met student Merce Cunningham. During the Seattle years, Cage organized an all-percussion band, collected unusual instruments and explored the Pacific Northwest.

Cage and Cunningham’s artistic and romantic partnership would last 54 years, until Cage left this world in 1992. Together and apart, the couple changed the relationship of music to dance. Cage served as music director of Cunningham’s company, and for many years, its manager, main fundraiser, cook, company philosopher, morale-booster and liaison between the introverted choreographer and the dancers.

In 1938, Cage began to experiment with pieces for the prepared piano, a piano he created with objects placed on and between the strings to alter sound. He also used record players and phonographs, kitchen appliances, kiddie toys, and flower pots as instruments. He actually received a review in The NY Times that said:

“Mr. Cage’s music had an inescapable resemblance to the meaningless sounds made by children amusing themselves by banging on tin pans and other resonant kitchen utensils.”

In Water Music (1952), Cage had a pianist pour water from one pot into another, and perform with a whistle and a deck of cards. Critics and audiences of traditional music were not amused.

In the 1940’s, Cage continued to pursue unorthodox musical techniques. He was fascinated with Zen Buddhism which led him to the notion of “chance music”. Based on the I Ching, the Zen book of changes, Cage created compositions solely by happenstance.

Cage worked best when he would compose and collaborate with other artists. In his later years, he focused exclusively on electronic music, sometimes using radios, and holding “Happenings,” pieces that are mostly unwritten, except for timed intervals in which a note, a sound, or silence is scheduled.

Cage’s work and life had a huge impact on Pop Art, Modern Minimalism, Performance Art, Installation Art, Process Art, Design and Pop Music. The late 20th century artists that created and worked with those forms had each come in contact with Cage at some point in the 1950s. He was an influence on pop figures: Yoko Ono, Laurie Anderson, Phillip Glass, Brian Eno, David Bowie and David Byrne. The Beatles’ song A Day In The Life was inspired by John Lennon and Paul McCartney’s time spent hanging out with Cage in the 1960s.

Cage was also a writer, philosopher, visual and performance artist. He was a self-taught expert on mushrooms. Early in his career, he made a living gathering mushrooms in the country and selling them to gourmet restaurants in NYC, including the late, great The Four Seasons. Cage said that mushrooms reminded him of the ephemeral nature of life. He was co-founder of the NY Mycological Society, dedicated to the study, collection and appreciation of mushrooms and fungi. I can totally dig it.

Cage:

“That’s one of the beautiful things about hunting mushrooms, they grow up and they’re fresh at just a particular moment, and our lives are actually characterized by moments.”

Cage insisted that music is everywhere in the ordinary moments of our lives. We just have to learn to hear it. Cage’s lasting influence is in his ideas about the artistic freedom that comes with breaking the rules. I couldn’t agree more.

Cage left this world in August 1992, taken by a stroke when he was 79 years old in the NYC home he shared with Cunningham. Cunningham joined his partner in summer 2009. Theirs is one of the truly great love stories.

Cage’s work remains thought provoking and continues to spur arguments, and still spreads mischief. People who knew him have told me he was warm and modest.

“I like everything.”

September 6, 1860Jane Addams

Just in time for the end of Labor Day weekend:

“Unless our conception of patriotism is progressive, it cannot hope to embody the real affection and the real interest of the nation.”

When Jane Addams’ travels took her away from her very special close companion, Mary Rozet Smith, she took along a painting of Smith, even though the portrait was kept in a rather bulky piece of luggage.

Addams was a rather brilliant and an unusually accomplished gay woman for her era. She graduated from Rockford Female Seminary in 1881. She founded Chicago‘s Hull House in 1898, along with Rockford classmate Ellen Gates Star. Hull House was an experimental model of reform to help provide for the neighborhood’s neediest residents. Hull House sought to reduce poverty by offering social services and education to the poor immigrants and laborers of working-class Chicago. They had daycare for children of working mothers, an art gallery, libraries, music and art classes, and an employment counseling services. Hull House served over 2,000 residents every week and eventually it included a book bindery, a gymnasium, a swimming pool, a residence for working women, a theater, labor museum, and a meeting hall for the trade unions.

Much of the early financial support for Hull House came from Addams’ girlfriend, Smith, who was one of the richest women in the USA at that time. Addams and Smith traveled the globe together whenever they could. Addams would demand a hotel room featuring a double bed, instead of a pair of singles. They also shared Smith’s summer home in Bar Harbor, Maine. They were a couple until Smith checked out for good in 1933.

As an compasionate, educated woman with a free spirit, along with the free time to pursue her own interests, Addams decided to dedicate her life to providing for the welfare of women and children in Chicago, and in locking in legislation for their protection. Addams was also involved in other social issues. Her social reform efforts included: housing for the poor, sanitation issues, factory inspections, immigrant rights, pacifism, and the eight-hour workday.

Addams publicly supported the Chicago City Council candidacy of attorney Pearl Hart, a champion of juvenile and women’s court cases and Gay Rights, appearing on behalf of victims of entrapment and harassment, often without a fee. She worked for issues having to do with the right to privacy. She was part of the founding of The Mattachine Society, one of the very first Gay Rights organizations. Hart would later become a well-known Civil Rights attorney in the McCarthy era.

Addams was a dedicated pacifist before WW I. She spoke out against Republican President William McKinley‘s decision to go to war after the sinking of the US Navy battleship Maine. In 1899, Addams joined Mark Twain, Chicago attorney Clarence Darrow and the gay novelist Henry Blake Fuller in formation of the Anti-Imperialist League to protest the USA’s war in Cuba and The Philippines. She viewed the USA’s involvement as a “Murderous Extension of American Capitalism”, and they were right. One of those trouble making lesbians, Addams was attacked by the Right-Wingers for her public opposition to the war and was kicked-out of the Daughters Of The American Revolution for her position. Isn’t it interesting the way that Conservatives are isolationists until it is their war?

Addams was such a progressive; she was a charter member of the National Consumers League, the NAACP, and the American Civil Liberties Union.

She lived a life of commitment to making a difference in the lives of the disenfranchised. She received many honors during her lifetime, including the 1931 Nobel Peace Prize, the very first American woman to receive the prize.

Addams left this world in 1935, just days after attending a celebratory dinner hosted by another woman who preferred to share her life with a special female companion, Eleanor Roosevelt.

Don’t you think the life of Jane Addams would make an especially fine film? I think it should be one of those terrific HBO event movies, maybe the team that brought us the powerful The Normal Heart (2014), or the sublime Angels In America. Or maybe, having Angelina Jolie-Pitt star as Addams, write and direct it too, getting the green-light for the project after she signs husband Brad to play Eleanor Roosevelt after I suddenly become unavailable for the role.

“The essence of immorality is the tendency to make an exception of myself.”

Phyllis Schlafly
14241602_10154492063526081_3184004117474712362_oPhyllis Schlafly, the homophobic, anti-feminist activist has died.

She’s best known for her opposition of the Equal Rights Amendment in the early ’70s, Schlafly opposed the ERA because she believed it would open the door to gay marriage, abortion, the military draft for women, co-ed bathrooms and the end of labor laws that barred women from dangerous workplaces. Schlafly’s vocally opposed LGBT rights her entire life, even though her son was gay.

Schlafly spoke with SiriusXM Progress host Michelangelo Signorile last year following the Supreme Court’s ruling on marriage equality:

The gays have their argument about inevitability… I don’t think that’s so. I’m extremely disappointed that the Republican Party, the conservative movement, even the Democratic Party and the churches, have been saying, ‘Well soon the court will decide, and that will be it.’ Well, a lot of people thought that about Roe v. Wade, and we’ve seen the whole abortion movement turned around in the last ten years.

Schlafly called on states to ignore the Supreme Court’s ruling and also claimed that marriage equality advocates want to wipe out the Christian religion.

She spoke out for “harassed” business owners in an interview with conservative radio host Chuck Wilder last year,

Have you noticed that only Christian small-businesspeople have been harassed and sued for refusing to participate in same-sex marriages even though our fast-growing immigrant populations, you know of Muslims, Hindus and other faiths are also opposed to that concept? They want to wipe out the Christian religion. And most of these other religions do not recognize same-sex marriage. I assume there are some Muslim bakers and photographers and other people who have been harassed, but they’re not being attacked and they’re not being criticized.

Schlafly’s final tweet was the promotion of a column she had written attacking Obama’s transgender rights policy for schools, which was halted by a federal judge in late August. Needless to say, she was a big Trump supporter.

So, I don’t feel badly saying it at all,

Ding-Dong, the wicked witch is dead.

You can have her, God.

#PoliticalShade: Obama Cancels Meeting After Philippine President Calls Him a “Son of a Whore”

phillipinesBarack Obama cancelled his meeting with the president of the Philippines, after Rodrigo Duterte called him a

son of a whore

Duterte was answering a reporter’s question about how he intended to explain the extrajudicial killings to Obama, before boarding a plane to Laos for the Association of South-east Asian Nations summit. Duterte was quoted by as saying by Agence-France Presse,

You must be respectful. Do not just throw away questions and statements. Son of a whore, I will curse you in that forum. We will be wallowing in the mud like pigs if you do that to me.

When his comments reached the Obama, he initially said he was asking his staff to find out whether holding the meeting as scheduled would be useful. Obama said at a news conference at the end of a G20 summit,

What I’ve instructed my team to do is to talk to their Philippine counterparts to find out, is if this in fact a time where we can have some constructive, productive conversations. Obviously the Filipino people are some of our closest friends and allies and the Philippines is a treaty ally of ours. But I always want to make sure that if I’m having a meeting that it’s actually productive and we’re getting something done.

Hours later the decision was made to cancel, a White House spokesman said. Instead, Obama will meet with South Korean president Park Geun-hye.

In his typical potty-mouthed style, Duterte responded,

I am a president of a sovereign state and we have long ceased to be a colony. I do not have any master except the Filipino people, nobody but nobody. You must be respectful. Do not just throw questions. Putang ina I will swear at you in that forum.

If you don’t know about Duterte, he has faced condemnation from human rights campaigners, diplomats and the UN. He’s labeled the US ambassador to Manila,

a gay son of a whore

(he needs some lessons in shade, huh?) He told the Catholic church

“don’t fuck with me”

He accused the UN of issuing “shitting” statements about his anti-drugs policies.

Obama joins a long list of people whose mothers Duterte has insulted, including Pope Francis, Philippine bishops and a murdered journalist, as well as the drugs traffickers who are the main targets of his domestic law and order policies.

He took office in June after winning a landslide on promises to sort out drug crime in the country, and told crowds on the day of his inauguration. He’s a horrible person and President, he said,

If you know of any addicts, go ahead and kill them yourself as getting their parents to do it would be too painful.

During his campaign, he said 100,000 people would die in his crackdown, with so many dead bodies dumped in Manila Bay that fish there would grow fat from feeding on them. According to official figures published on Sunday, his war on drugs has led to 2,400 deaths in just the last two months.

The call has led to what critics say amounts to open season on suspected drug criminals on the streets of Manila and other major cities, with thousands killed by vigilantes and police, who invariably claim to have fired back in self-defence.

In June, the UN secretary general, Ban Ki-moon, condemned Duterte’s support for extrajudicial killings, saying they were

illegal and a breach of fundamental rights and freedoms

Duterte replied by calling the UN “stupid” and threatening to withdraw the Philippines. Asked about the possible repercussions of his comments, he said:

What is … repercussions? I don’t give a shit to them.

He should be careful, with talk like that he might get labeled the Donald Trump of the East.

Filipinos carry the coffin of an alleged drug dealer at Manila North Cemetery. Catholic leaders say they are powerless to stop a growing number of extrajudicial killings in the Philippines that have come with Duterte's war on drugs.

Massive Attack’s Founder Admits Nothing: “Rumors of Me Being Banksy Are Greatly Exaggerated”

This sign appeared on the street outside a Massive Attack concert in their home-town of Bristol on Saturday night.

Massive Attack performed a show in its home town of Bristol on Saturday, September 3 and commented on the rumors. Founder Robert “3D” Del Naja said,

Rumors of me being Banksy [are] greatly exaggerated, we are all Banksy!

What is also entirely plausible that if Banksy is NOT 3D –that the two ARE friends– that the street artist would have been back in Bristol for the band’s first home-town gig in 11 years.

However, investigative journalist, Craig Williams, has mapped out Massive Attack’s tour dates and destinations and cross-referenced them with the places where Banksy works have appeared. They pretty much line up.

Reported by the Daily Telegraph, show Williams found out,

• In 1988, Massive Attack formed in Bristol; the first recorded Banksy artwork appeared there two years later.

• April of 2003, a month after Massive Attack played in Melbourne, Banksy’s work appeared there

• On September 23 of 2004, shortly after the Banksy mural Madonna Con La Pistola appeared on the side of a church in Naples, Del Naja attended a soccer match there.

• October of 2006, Banksy’s Barely Legal exhibition opened in LA, a week after the band played at the Hollywood Bowl.

• In 2008, the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, Banksy created 14 stencil-works across New Orleans. Del Naja co-wrote the soundtrack to the Katrina-focused documentary Trouble the Water that same year

• May 1, 2010, 6 Banksy murals showed up in San Francisco; Massive Attack performed there on April 25 and 27, as part of a world tour

• May 7, 2010, the band performed in Toronto; a Banksy worked popped up there on May 14

• In 2013, when Massive Attack undertook a residency from September 28 to October 4 at the Park Avenue Armory in New York, Banksy began a month-long New York residency of his own, installing a whole series of works throughout the city.

The evidence is far from conclusive but Del Naja does get PRETTY close to Banksy. He has a history of graffiti art as part of the collective The Wild Bunch, and is supposedly “friends” with the artist. He even appeared in the 2010 film that was directed by Banksy, Exit From the Gift Shop.

3D’s political leanings are also similar to Banksy’s. Although no movements for the band have coincided directly with the appearance of the nine artworks to have appeared on the Palestinian Wall, Massive Attack have been known to openly support and work with the HOPING Foundation (Hope and Optimism for Palestinians in the Next Generation), and have boycotted tour dates within Israel.

Wonder if we’ll ever know who Banksy really is? Anyway, you can check out Massive Attack’s latest video featuring Cate Blanchette.
