Lady Gaga (‘member her?) performs the classic “La Vie En Rose” for the first time in her career during her concert with Tony Bennett at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
“When they told me that I was gonna be singing at the Hollywood Bowl I got so excited because they told me I’d be singing here with Tony,” she shared with the sold-out crowd. “What I told them was ‘Sometimes, you gotta make your own dreams come true. It’s up to you to make it happen.’ So I’d like to dedicate this song to my parents who are here tonight. And to my sister Natali, ’cause my dream is to sing my favorite song in a pink dress made by my sister.”
As always, Gaga’s vocals are beyond impressive and the song, of course, stands on its own as one of the all-time greats. Listen to it below, then compare and contrast with two other iconic versions – Grace Jones‘ 1977 disco version (which has the power to INSTANTLY bring me to tears) and, of course France’s legendary Little Sparrow, Edith Piaf, whose made the song her signature number after World War II.
